Quotes & pricing

Quotes and pricing

How quotes work, what painting costs and why we never charge by the hour.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, every quote is free and completely obligation-free. We'll visit your property, assess the work and provide a detailed written quote with clear, fixed pricing.

How do I book a quote, and how long does it take?

Call 0449 650 514 or request a quote online, any day of the week between 7am and 8pm. We reply to every enquiry within one business day and arrange a free visit to your home at a time that suits you. The visit itself depends on the job, but on average allow around 30 minutes.

What exactly happens after I request a quote?

We reply within one business day and arrange a visit to your home at a time that suits you. Once we've gone through it together, we'll email you a detailed quote for your project, including any colour advice.

How soon can you start, and how long will my job take?

Quotes move fast: we reply within one business day and book the visit to your home around your schedule. Your written quote then sets out the timing for your specific job, and we're proud to say our projects all get completed on time.

Is the quoted price really fixed?

Yes. The quoted price is the price. Your written quote covers the full agreed scope and materials before we start, and if any additional work comes up, it's quoted before we move ahead.

How much does it cost to repaint a house in Australia?

Costs vary widely by home size, location and condition, so a genuine figure only comes from a proper assessment at your home. What stays constant with Platinum is fixed-price certainty, premium paints and a 5-year workmanship warranty, so you're investing in a finish that lasts.

Is a professional repaint actually worth the investment?

Done properly, yes. A quality repaint lifts presentation, kerb appeal and value inside and out, and protects your biggest asset from the Hunter climate. With fixed written pricing and a 5-year warranty, the value is locked in from day one.

Choosing colours

Choosing colours

Palettes, sheens and honest advice on how colours behave on Hunter homes.

Do you help with colour selection?

Yes. A free colour consultation comes with your quote. We'll help you build a cohesive palette that suits your home's style, light and fixed elements like roofing and flooring, and talk through how each colour behaves at different times of day before any paint goes on.

Do you offer colour samples to help me decide?

Yes, we do. Our advice: don't have more than three or four colours in the running, because any more than that tends to make the choice harder, not easier.

What colours are popular for Newcastle and Hunter homes?

Soft whites, warm neutrals and coastal greys lead the way across the region, often lifted with a feature wall in a deeper tone like sage or navy. The right choice always comes down to your home's light, era and surroundings, which is exactly what the colour consult works through.

Should I go light or dark on my exterior?

Darker exteriors look striking, but they absorb more heat and show UV fading sooner, especially close to the coast. Premium exterior systems handle this far better than budget paint, and we'll tell you honestly how your shortlist will hold up before you commit.

What sheen should I use where?

As a rule of thumb: low-sheen for walls and ceilings, washable low-sheen for busy areas like hallways and kids' rooms, and semi-gloss or gloss for trims, doors and skirtings. We recommend the right sheen surface by surface as part of your quote.

Can you match my existing colours?

Yes. If you're touching up or extending an existing scheme, we can work from a sample to find the match or the closest equivalent in the Dulux, Haymes, Taubmans and Wattyl ranges.

Interior painting

Interior painting

Living through a repaint, timing and what an interior job includes.

What does interior painting include?

Walls, ceilings, trims, doors and feature walls, plus the preparation that makes the finish last: filling, sanding, patching and priming throughout. From a single room to a complete interior, the standard is the same.

Can you paint while we're living in the home?

Yes, most of our interior work happens in occupied homes. We work room by room around your routine, use low-odour paints where possible and leave the site clean and liveable at the end of every single day.

Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?

We handle the heavy protection: floors, furniture and fittings are covered before a brush comes out, and we tidy up daily. Clearing small and fragile items from each room ahead of time is a big help and keeps things moving.

Do I need to be home while you work?

No. Plenty of jobs run while owners are at work or away. We agree access up front, protect your home like it's our own, tidy up every day and keep you updated right through to the final walkthrough.

How long does interior painting take?

A single room is usually a day or two once prep is included, while a whole-home interior typically runs across weeks or more, depending on size and condition. Your written quote sets out the timing up front, and we finish when we said we would.

Exterior painting

Exterior painting

Coastal conditions, timing and how we make exterior finishes last.

When is the best time of year to paint an exterior?

In the Hunter, exteriors can be painted for most of the year. We schedule around rain and extreme heat because temperature and moisture affect how paint cures, so milder weather makes planning easier, but a properly managed job delivers the same finish year-round.

How do you deal with the coastal climate?

Salt air, harsh UV and humidity are exactly why prep matters here. We high-pressure wash to strip salt, dirt, mould and chalking, repair and prime, then apply two full coats of a premium system matched to your cladding and exposure.

What exterior surfaces do you paint?

Weatherboard, render, fibre-cement and brick, plus eaves, fascias and trims. Each surface gets its own preparation and coating system, which is a big part of why the finish lasts.

How often should a house exterior be repainted?

It depends on exposure. Coastal and north-facing walls cop more salt and UV, so they weather faster than sheltered homes, and preparation quality makes the biggest difference of all. Our workmanship is covered by a written 5-year warranty, and a properly prepped premium system is designed to look good well beyond that.

Commercial & strata

Commercial and strata

Trading hours, tenants and how managed properties stay running while we paint.

Can you paint around our trading hours?

Yes. Offices, retail and warehouses are painted on budget and on schedule, with after-hours options available so your business keeps trading while the work gets done.

How do you minimise disruption on strata properties?

Apartment complexes and shared spaces are managed with smooth project management from start to finish: clear scheduling, tidy crews, daily clean-ups and one point of contact, so residents always know what's happening and when.

Do you work with strata managers?

Yes, we're trusted by strata managers across the region, including Lake Group Strata, Hunter Strata Management and Your Strata Services, with fixed written quotes and our 5-year workmanship warranty on every project. We also work alongside builders such as Superior Built Carpentry.

Are you insured for commercial and strata work?

Fully. We hold NSW painting licence No. 459336C, ABN 88 951 827 084 and full insurance, so owners, managers and tenants are completely covered on every job.

Warranty & our team

Our warranty and our team

Who turns up, what the warranty covers and where we work.

Are you licensed and insured?

Absolutely. Platinum Painting is fully licensed (Lic No. 459336C) and insured, so you're completely covered for every job, big or small.

What does the 5-year workmanship warranty cover?

It's a workmanship warranty, not a paint warranty: every job is backed in writing against peeling and cracking caused by our workmanship. If something isn't right and it comes down to how we prepared or applied the finish, we'll make it right.

What if I'm not happy with the finish?

We don't consider a job done until you do. Every project ends with a final walkthrough together, and we'll complete everything in the quoted scope until you're happy with it. From there, the finish is backed in writing by our workmanship warranty.

Who actually turns up on the day?

The team that quotes is the team that paints. Platinum is owner-led, with Dean across every job personally and a trade-qualified local crew, no faceless subcontractors turning up on the day.

How do I know Platinum is right for my project?

The easiest way to decide is to read our Google reviews: more than 65 of them, rated 5.0, and so many from neighbours and referrals across the region. Whatever the size of your project, a single room or a whole home, it gets the same care they describe.

We've had a bad experience with painters before. Why is this different?

Usually the story is vague quotes, rushed prep or crews you never met. We fix all three: fixed written pricing, preparation we never cut corners on, and the same team that quotes is the team that paints.

How do I know the quality is as good as you say?

You don't have to take our word for it: a 5.0 Google rating from more than 65 reviews, work that keeps coming from neighbours and referrals, a 2026 Local Business Awards finalist spot and a warranty that puts it all in writing.

Which areas do you service?

We serve Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the wider Hunter Valley from our base at Mayfield West, including Merewether, Charlestown, Cardiff and the surrounding suburbs. Not sure if we cover your area? Just ask.

  • Dean and his team did a fantastic job. They turned my mum's tired old house, which looked like the oldest one in the street, into one of the newest and most modern. It seriously looks like one of the many new builds on the street. You have exceeded all expectations.

  • The team did an amazing job at our 2 storey home. Days were spent preparing: sanding, priming and sealing, and only quality Dulux products were used. We had an internal concrete wall that was severely cracked, but you'd never know it now. We are delighted with the end result.

  • We received three quotes to paint our three storey home in Eleebana and chose Platinum. Detailed veranda railings, six garages, three levels, all handled with real professionalism and care. The attention to detail and quality of the finish were outstanding.
